IS CASH BASED PHYSICAL THERAPY MORE EXPENSIVE?

When people hear the word cash based physical therapy, they seem to instantly assume they can not afford it. When they think of in-network or insurance based physical therapy they often think free. This is often not the case and here is why.

INSURANCE BASED

Let's assume best case scenario, you have met your insurance deductible and insurance covers physical therapy (large assumptions to begin with). You are often left with a co-pay averaging between $20-70 per session. Not horrible, but it adds up. However, as the saying goes "you get what you pay for".

Now let's assume you have a high deductible insurance plan that you have not met yet. Depending on the clinic costs can vary significantly. I have seen anything from $100 to even $400 per session depending on what the therapists bills. The problem is you often will not know the cost until after you are finished due to the cost being determined by what the therapists bills you each session. Nothing like getting hit with a lovely surprise bill at the end of rehab.

Like I addressed earlier, you get what you pay for with traditional therapy. I go into a lot of the issues I have with traditional physical therapy is this article, Traditional Physical Therapy Is Broken.

CASH BASED

In our model, we do not accept insurance. This often scares people away because they assume it will be more expensive. While this is possible, here is why I think the investment is worth it and why it may actually be cheaper.

HSA and Super Bills

Health Savings Accounts (HSA) are increasing in popularity and allow individuals to use their HSA for high quality care without worrying about insurance coverage . We accept HSA to ensure patients can afford our services.

While we do not accept insurance, upon request we provide patients with a Super Bill which allows you to submit to insurance for reimbursement. We help walk you through what you need to know and do to know if insurance will cover your visits. Insurance will often over a percentage of the cost of physical therapy or the whole cost.

Now let's assume our rehab is more expensive. Why would you come to a cash based clinic?

Here is a quick recap of why, but ultimately you'll have to be the judge:

  • Your entire session is 1 on 1 with a physical therapist.

  • Your session is tailored to your needs, not based off a generic exercise packet.

  • Session duration ranges for 45 - 75 minutes based off your needs.

  • We get you better faster in less visits.

  • We don't waste your time or money billing for ice machines and traction units.

  • We offer virtual rehab sessions at a cheaper cost for patients unable to come in frequently.

  • We have access to a full weight room and 9,000 sqft of turf space.

  • We take a holistic approach to your care.

Just a few reasons we are worth the investment.

SUMMARY

So yes, there is the potential that we could be more expensive. However, the quality of care we provide not only makes it worth it, it could offset the cost as our patients often get better faster. We look forward to showing you the difference!

Till next time!
